Hair Extension Aftercare

Avoid tying your hair

New extensions may feel uncomfortable for the first week. Avoid tying hair tightly for the first two weeks as this may cause damage.

Hydrate your hair

Your Us. Hair Official extensions do not have a natural hydration source like your own hair does, so keeping them moisturised is crucial to maintaining their beauty. Avoid products with alcohol in them like mousse and hairspray, instead opt for a smoothing serum. The products that contain alcohol will dry the hair out.

Use the right products

Only use moisture rich, sulphate/alcohol free hair products (shampoo, conditioner and masks) to prevent your extensions from becoming dry and prone to tangling. Make sure all products are thoroughly rinsed out when washing your hair to prevent build up.

Treat yo self

Use a hair mask/treatment once or twice a week. Apply it onto towel-dry hair after shampooing, and allow for it to work for at least 7-10 minutes. We do not recommend using purple shampoo for your extensions as this will dry them out causing matting/knotting.

Dry the right way

After washing avoid rolling or rubbing the hair, instead gently squeeze out the excess water and pat dry with a towel. Only brush your hair using a hair extension appropriate brush, and apply a heat protectant spray and serum through the hair to hydrate and protect prior to heat styling. (see store for our detangling wet/dry extension brush & Heat protectant spray)

Brush daily

Brush hair 2-3 times daily. Brush the extensions from the ends first, then working your way up to the scalp this will keep tangles from forming at the base of the extension.

Blow-dry

Do not let your Us. Hair Official extensions dry naturally. Always blow-dry your hair using a ceramic round brush to smoothen the hair cuticles. Ensure hair is completely dry before heat styling.

Style on low heat

We recommend only using a low heat setting of 120°C when styling your beautiful Us. Hair Official extensions to avoid heat damage. Try to keep heat tool styling to a minimum as the hair may become dry and brittle.

Rest in style

Your luscious locks will be longer and thicker than your natural hair, which means they’ll also be more likely to tangle. We recommend plaiting your hair before sleeping to avoid knotting. Never go to bed with wet hair - this will cause tangling and matting. We also recommend sleeping with a silk pillowcase which will help you avoid frizz.

Don’t let them dye

Never lighten your Us. Hair Official extensions. If you want to colour your extensions in a darker shade, book an appointment with your hairdresser and only go within 2 shades DARKER. If you require your natural hair coloured, try to time it when the extensions are due to be taken up and out. Do not run bleach through from natural hair as this can cause the extensions to become dry and brittle.

Reapply to look fly

Reapply your extensions every 4-8 weeks to move the weft closer to the scalp and avoid damage. Your hair extension specialist will give you the recommended time for a pull up based on your hair/scalp type.

Goodbye old hairs

Remember, the average natural hair loss is between 50-100 strands per day. You will see a small amount of hairs when the weft is removed, this is normal and is not due to your extensions.

Trim the ends

If necessary, have the ends of your hair extensions trimmed at your take up appointments to help maintain.
